This coin was issued on 1st of December 1991. The information concerning the estimated mintage figures for the coins struck after 1989 is given after "Standard Catalog of World Coins", editor G. Cuhaj.
On the edge is written ROMANIA for three times. The words are separated by groups of three stars with eight rays each.
The obverse characters on the 100 lei coins struck in 1991 and 1992 are thick. From 1992 on the coins feature thin characters (the digits of 100 differ the most). In 1992 both thick and thin character coins were struck. Moreover, the digits 9 used for representing the year also differ. There are straight ended and round ended 9's. The common 1992 coins (both thin and thick) feature straight ended 9's. There are known coins of 1992 with round ended 9's, belonging to the thick 100 digits category (extremely rare, since we found only five pieces out of about two hundred checked - we ourselves were surprised to recently learn of their existence).
